Christmas on the Square Holiday Light Up

The 2009 Christmas on the Square Holiday Light Up was a huge success. Over 10,000 people came downtown to enjoy an entire afternoon of festivities. Attendees had the opportunity to enjoy shopping at the 104th Street City Market, going on horse and wagon rides around City Hall, making kids crafts, and sipping hot chocolate.

Children's entertainment and Christmas choirs were on stage to help everyone warm up and get ready for the main event.

The icing on the cake, or more appropriately, the star atop the tree, was when Santa Claus and Mayor Stephen Mandel flicked the candy cane switch to light the 2009 Tree of Lights and kick off the fireworks show. With hundreds of new LED light decorations and thousands of string lights, this year's tree was unlike anything Edmontonians have ever seen before.
