Supported Charity

Every two years the Association chooses a new downtown charitable organization as a fundraising focus.

Throughout each year the Downtown Business Association (DBA) helps raise money and awareness for a charity through its
annual events and promotions.

The DBA is pleased to announce the selection of their new supported charity of 2009/2010. After closely working with the Alberta Council of Women’s Shelters (ACWS) in September of 2008 for the First World Conference of Women’s Shelters it became clear that this particular charity would be a fantastic fit for the DBA to support throughout the next two years.

The ACWS is the unified voice of 42 member shelter organizations. Shelters open their doors to provide a safe haven for women and children fleeing from the nightmare of domestic abuse. They support families as they develop the strength and skill to begin new lives free from violence.

The ACWS also assists frontline shelters by initiating projects to improve shelter services, by providing professional development and training for shelter workers and through research and data collection to support collaborative action. The Council also creates public awareness and provides the necessary tools and information for business and community.
