Message from the Chair

As fall is around the corner, there is a lot to report on at the DBA. First, I want to take a moment to introduce myself. I am Robert Bothwell the new chair of the Downtown Business Association of Edmonton. Gord Rajewski has now moved to the position of Past Chair. We thank him for his many contributions to the DBA and look forward to working with him in his new role.

Another summer has come and gone in Downtown and I hope you had an enjoyable one. It was electrifying to see hundreds of thousands of people come to the core this summer to celebrate exciting festivals like Taste of Edmonton and the Cariwest Parade; to dine in our amazing restaurants; to unwind on our sunny outdoor patios; to shop in the expanding catalog of stores.

Our Core Crew, Jennifer, Liam, Maria, Serena, and Steven hosted daily historical walking tours and have now returned to school. We thank them for their great work and wish them the best of luck.

This August we published The Future of Retail in Downtown Edmonton report written by our MBA summer student. It is a comprehensive look at our current retail options, what’s missing, and how to improve the retail landscape in Downtown. The study is available on our website, and I encourage you to check it out.

With autumn upon us, the DBA is gearing up for another eventful fall season. As a CFL fan I, along with many Edmontonians, am looking forward to Edmonton hosting the 106th Grey Cup. Downtown will be at the centre of all the action as the Grey Cup Festival heats up the core, November 21 to 25.

On October 11, come celebrate with us the Grey Cup 2018 at our Fall Luncheon held at the Westin Hotel. We will be talking about the many Grey Cup festivities going on and you will have an opportunity to get a photo with the Grey Cup. Tickets are $60 each and can be purchased at Eventbrite.

We will also be hosting several seasonal events including the 2nd annual Holiday WindowDecorating Contest, and Santa at the City Market. Please visit our website for more information on these events, as well as other upcoming DBA events.
