Join the Don Berner Big Band for their season opener of A Salute to Tommy Banks.
The Don Berner Big Band is the city of Edmonton’s flagship large jazz ensemble. An Edmonton jazz favourite for over a decade, the Don Berner Big Band became the first professional large jazz ensemble in Edmonton to have a fully programmed concert season in 2021. Featuring Edmonton’s best jazz musicians, the Don Berner Big Band presents an eclectic season drawing from classic big band and swing repertoire, collaborations with contemporary and pop artists, adaptations of works from other mediums, and more with a variety of special illustrious guests.
Edmonton’s flagship big band launches their third season in their new home in MacEwan’s Triffo theatre! And they do it in style presenting A Salute to Tommy Banks!, an evening not to be missed of composition and arrangements from the esteemed senator and music closely associated with his storied career! Senator Tommy Banks was not only an Edmonton musical mainstay and internationally recognized performer, but he was also a major influence on multiple generations of Edmonton musicians and helped launch MacEwan’s renowned music program. It’s only fitting that Edmonton’s best big band pays homage to the man in many ways responsible for their existence, as they celebrate their new home with an evening of stellar musical pyrotechnics in a stunning state of the art theatre!
