This Weekend Downtown

Here’s what you should make time for downtown this weekend.

11am-10pm We are kicking off Taco Thursday at Root 107. Come on down to the park for live music, tacos from Calle Mexico restaurant and Choco N’ Dip’s Cheesecake on a stick. Find the Root 107 programming schedule here

5-7pm If you’re still uncomfortable inside a movie theatre then the Art Gallery of Alberta’s Sidewalk Cinema is for you! Check out their student showcase of film work from University of Alberta and MacEwan University students at the Northeast corner of the building. This event is free to attend and will run until August 2nd. 

7:30-9:30pm  Share your own work and stories at Word*Lab, Co*Lab’s all ages open mic night. This month is hosted by writer, poet and activist, Dawn Carter. Grab your tickets in advance. 

2pm Anna Edwards, president of Cariwest Festival will lead a tour through the exhibition ’Black Every Day’ at the Art Gallery of Alberta. Black Every Day marks the 15th anniversary of 5 Artists 1 Love, an organization dedicated to promoting the vibrancy of Edmonton’s African Canadian communities. This tour is free with admission to the gallery or can be viewed virtually. 4-8pm Ice cream is one of the best things about summer, hands down. So we are over the moon to see more and more local ice cream trucks popping up. Come by Root 107 to try one of Edmonton’s newest scoops, Cascarinos Gelato Truck. Ice cream floats also available! Find the Root 107 programming schedule here.

5-11pm It’s time to get Back Together at this two-day "locals only" mini-fest at The Backyard! Tonight join Creeasian, Chad Cook, Teddy Plenti and others for a relaxing evening of R&B and Soul. Tomorrow, get ready to move your body to fluid house and dance beats. Grab your tickets here.

7pm Tap your foot while stuffing your face with Campio Brewing’s famous nachos at the St. Arnaud show presented by Downtown Live. Their soulful lyrics and fun riffs will have you singing their catchy tunes all the way home. Better yet - this Downtown Live show is free to attend!

7-11pm Boyle Street Arts Night at CO*LAB is back with a WOWZA line-up for us. Come through for the sultry sounds of Melafrique and their signature blend of jazz, r&b and neo-soul along with Stem Champ and Effy in the Sky. Tickets available here. 

12-9pm Disco in the Park is one of the first to bring touring acts back to Edmonton. Join this weekend long open-air dance party with a view at Louise McKinney River Front Park. Grab your tickets here. 

1:30 & 3:30pm Visual art and music go hand-in-hand, that’s why the Art Gallery of Alberta has partnered with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra to bring you weekly Saturday performances throughout August. 5pm Not only is Taste of Edmonton giving us some of the best in Edmonton eats, they are also giving us some of the best in local music. Find F&M, The Borch Brothers, Seriously Fun and Audry Ochoa on the taste stage this evening. Taste of Edmonton runs until August 1st. 

5pm Feel like a true urbanite while you enjoy live entertainment, food and ice cold beverages as you relax in Edmonton’s newest plaza, surrounded by spectacular towers. ICE Jam takes place every Saturday this summer. See who is performing here. 

7:30pm Some may describe coming back to the theatre as heaven, so that’s exactly what The Citadel Theatre is opening their 2021/2022 Season with. See what the Alberta prairies are made of with Heaven - running July 31 until August 15.

2-10pm Kelly’s Pub is back with their Annual 104 St Summer Auto Show. Find 100+ hot rods and classic cars along 104 St and stop in for a pint at Kelly’s or any of the surrounding 104 St businesses! 

All Day Today is your last chance to indulge in western Canada’s largest outdoor food fare, Taste of Edmonton. With over 50 vendors, there is sure to be something to satisfy any craving. 

8pm Celebrate the long weekend and Icehouse’s 7th anniversary with Canada’s legendary Latin funk band Maraujah on the Rocky Mountain Icehouse stage (10516 Jasper Ave) starting at 8pm. This show is free to attend but reservations are encouraged.
