Let’s Do Brunch

Looking for brunch in Downtown Edmonton? There’s something for everyone from wait-worthy waffles to live entertainment - By Kayla Shapka

Commodore Restaurant
The food at the 77-year-old Commodore Restaurant hasn’t changed much over the years, and that’s a good thing. The every day, all day, breakfast menu gets you simple, classic plates like a ham and cheese omelete served with home fried potatoes and toast for under $10 or French toast for $6.50. On weekends, enjoy live music at 11 am. 10712 Jasper Ave

Start the weekend off right at Zinc located in the Art Gallery of Alberta. Late morning, this ever-popular restaurant buzzes with the animated chatter of gallery-goers and artsy types. Settle into the $18 three-course brunch menu and choose from 10 different mains, including a buttered lobster tail served with two poached eggs, hollandaise and a truffle lobster salad. Tip: Park at Edmonton City Hall for fifty cents per hour or free on the street on Sundays. Make it a day and head across the street to the Royal Alberta Museum. 3 Sir Winston Churchill Square

La Ronde
Enjoy your Sunday brunch with a bird eye’s view of the river valley and Downtown Edmonton’s ever-changing skyline at La Ronde in Chateau Lacombe Hotel. You could go for omelets and waffles at this buffet-style brunch, but that’s missing the point, when carved prime beef, salmon and shrimp are yours for the taking. Children under 4 years old are complimentary, making La Ronde a wonderful reason to get the family together. 10111 Bellamy Hill Road

OEB Breakfast co.
Edmonton’s newest brunch spot Calgary-based OEB landed in Edmonton last fall, upping the Downtown brunch ante. Breakfast is the only thing they do here, so you know they do it right. The menu covers eggs every-which-way (omelets, bennies, scrambled) but with a bit of twist. Tuck into generous portions of confit duck and egg, tuna crudo poutine or Nutella French toast. OEB is open daily until 2:45 pm. 10174 100A Street

Match Eatery & Public House
Lady Luck may not be on your side at the nearby Grand Villa Casino, but at Match Eatery & Public House the odds are in your favour that you’ll leave a winner. The concise $10 menu includes plates such as eggs benedict, smoked salmon benedict and a vegetable-loaded frittata. Make it a boozy brunch with the Caesar cocktails and $5 mimosas. 10224 104 Ave
