We’re Hiring: Partnerships & Events Manager

The Edmonton Downtown Business Association is hiring a full-time, permanent Partnerships & Events Manager.

The Organization

As the lead convener, activator, and advocate shaping Downtown Edmonton’s future, the Edmonton Downtown Business Association (EDBA) works to support an evolving, inclusive, prosperous, and resilient Downtown economy rooted in a vibrant and remarkable Downtown experience.

The EDBA is the Business Improvement Area (BIA) responsible for Edmonton’s Downtown business district, representing and working on behalf of the 1,200+ businesses located within our borders. We are an independent non-profit organization with a small but mighty team.

The Position

We are seeking an energetic, confident, and organized team member who will work closely with the Executive Director and Marketing & Communications team members to achieve the organization’s downtown vibrancy and community partnership objectives. The Partnerships & Events Manager is a full-time, permanent position with 1-10 seasonal and event-specific direct reports and responsibility for the work of multiple external contractors.

What You’ll Need

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in marketing, communications, event management, arts & cultural management, or general business
  • 3-5 years’ experience in an event management, project coordination, fund development, or client relationship management role
  • Well-developed project management skills to successfully manage multiple projects
  • Exceptionally strong verbal and written communication skills

 

What You’ll Do

Execution of Programs and Events

  • Act as the project lead for all EDBA-led events, public space activations, and other programs as required (e.g., Al Fresco on 104, Downtown Spark, Holiday Light Up)
    • Manage event critical paths, oversee scheduling, permitting, venues and catering, and any other event related logistics
    • Schedule and manage projects
    • Ensure clear and consistent internal communication of project statuses, and adjusting resources and priorities accordingly
    • Liaise with the City of Edmonton, EDBA members, event partners, contractors, suppliers, etc. to ensure clear communication and project success
    • Actively manage and report internally on all event and program budgets
    • Manage the successful execution of EDBA events and activations on-site as required, leading staff, partners, and contractor
  • Lead the EDBA’s annual Festivals & Events Grant Program
    • Manage the call for applications, application evaluation, and applicant communication process
    • Work with successful grant recipients to support event success and ensure reporting requirements are met
    • Act as the primary liaison within the EDBA for all event organizers who are hosting public events downtown, helping to answer questions, give advice, and direct organizers to relevant and appropriate contacts at the City of Edmonton
    • Act as the EDBA lead on partner-led projects where EDBA is a contributing partner and bring in internal resources and personnel as require
    • Collaborate with internal team members to ensure all events and programs are being appropriately marketed and communicated to relevant audiences
    • Ensure program and event objectives, timelines, constraints, and other parameters are clear at the outset of each project and provide constructive and forward-looking reporting internally at the conclusion of each project
    • Initiate and lead creative brainstorming discussions with the internal team when new opportunities for EDBA programs and events arise


Partnerships and Government Grants

  • Work with the Executive Director to carry out fund development activities including writing corporate partnership and sponsorship proposals and grant applications
  • Ensure the EDBA is fulfilling any commitments and agreed-upon expectations outlined in sponsorship agreements and grant funding agreements
  • Maintain and nurture relationships with the EDBA’s diverse community of members, stakeholders, and community partners
  • Proactively and creatively pursue new funding partnerships with businesses and organizations who have a stake and interest in Downtown vibrancy
  • Track and report internally on the EDBA’s revenue targets and in-kind donation targets for each program and event
