Orange Shirt Day events downtown

September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

The National Day for Truth & Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day both take place yearly on September 30. This day honours children who never returned home and the Survivors of residential schools. All Canadians are encouraged to wear orange to show support for and honour Survivors of residential schools.

Thirteen dioramas illustrate the Indian Residential School era, the time before, and the time after. With scenes comprised of handmade dolls, structures, dwellings, and landscapes, this exhibition explores the history and legacy of the Indian Residential Schools and the impact it had upon First Nations and Metis families.

Films at the Library | Rhymes for Young Ghouls

Presented for the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, the feature debut of the late Mi’kmaq director Jeff Barnaby follows Aila, a 15-year-old girl living on the Red Crow Mi’kmaq reservation in 1976 as she tries to keep herself out of residential school and the hands of the sadistic Indian agent who runs the school.
