Core Care Services

In its ongoing efforts to help build a vibrant downtown and support downtown businesses, the Edmonton Downtown Business Association created Core Care. These teams work to improve safety, cleanliness and the overall downtown experience.

These are our Core Care services.

Night Patrol – Downtown safety is a growing concern in the core. The EDBA’s Night Patrol helps to improve nighttime safety for Edmonton’s downtown businesses, workers, visitors and residents.

This is not a replacement for Edmonton Police Service. If you are in an emergency situation, call 911.

Operating seven days a week from 12:30 am to 8:30 am, two Night Patrol vehicles comprised of a security professional from Backwoods Security and a peer support worker from Hiregood patrol downtown streets, alleys, and public spaces.

Downtown Shine (formerly Downtown Proud) – This litter removal service ensures the downtown core is clean, promoting a healthy environment for everyone downtown. The EDBA works in partnership with the City of Edmonton and Hiregood to provide increased service.

In 2022, the team collected 1,451 bags of trash, a 46% increase from the previous year. There was a slight decrease in needles recovered (885) thanks to investments and improvements in safe needle disposal and other harm reduction initiatives from the social services sector and the City of Edmonton.
