The Art of Banksy and Beyond: Make the Most of a Downtown Day

Get up close with Banksy and discover Downtown Edmonton's vibrant street art scene.

Visiting the Art of Banksy exhibit is an unforgettable experience that brings you up close with Banksy’s art, his evolution, and the process behind his most iconic works. From the moment you enter, you are taken on a journey through the timeline of Banksy’s work, exploring how his art has developed over the years and the messages behind each piece.

As you move through the exhibit, you will encounter striking works from his infamous Dismaland project before ascending to the second floor to view some of his most well-known pieces, including Girl with Balloon, Flower Thrower, and Queen Ziggy. The exhibit is not just about looking—it is about experiencing. One standout feature is the Infinity Room, where you step into a mirrored space that surrounds you with Banksy’s art, fully immersing you in the narrative. Another highlight is the Hologram, a world-premiere installation that brings a lifelike projection of Banksy and his workspace to life, letting you see the artist like never before.

As you make your way to the end of the exhibit, you will encounter one of Banksy’s most thought-provoking installations. Louise Michel is a room inspired by the 30-metre French Navy boat that Banksy outfitted in response to the refugee crisis in the Mediterranean, offering a powerful look at the artist’s humanitarian work.

For visitors with a higher-tier ticket, there is even a hands-on opportunity to spray paint your own Banksy stencil onto a T-shirt, creating a one-of-a-kind keepsake from your visit. And before you leave, do not forget to sign the graffiti wall and leave your own mark!

Make the Most of a Downtown Day

After your visit, extend your experience by exploring Edmonton’s own vibrant street art scene. Downtown is home to several striking murals—perfect for photos or simply soaking in the creativity of the city.

ALLEY OF LIGHT | RICE HOWARD WAY

Just off Rice Howard Way, bold murals decorate the alley. Overhead, eleven glowing frames highlight artwork from talented local artists. The displays rotate regularly, turning the alley into an ever-changing art gallery. Every visit promises something new to discover!

LULU LANE | BETWEEN 103 AND 104 STREET

This striking alley honours early civil rights activist Lulu Anderson. In 1922, Lulu was refused entry to the Metropolitan Theatre because of the colour of her skin. Lulu Lane celebrates the strength, resiliency, and determination of Black people in Alberta’s history through a reimagined portrait of Lulu, vibrant colours, and dynamic shapes—a visually compelling tribute to an important piece of history.

THE HERO MURAL | 10414 103 AVENUE

The largest wall at the 2023 Edmonton Mural Festival, The Hero is a breathtaking fusion of Filipino and Indigenous heritage in the style of Indigenous futurism. The mural amplifies marginalized voices and raises awareness of the missing and murdered Indigenous peoples in Canada, while inspiring a new generation of empathy, care, and cultural understanding.

Downtown has no shortage of cafés or restaurants, so round out your day with a drink, snack, or a delicious meal! Check out our favourites here.
