In its ongoing efforts to help build a vibrant downtown and support downtown businesses, the Edmonton Downtown Business Association created Core Care. These teams work to improve safety, cleanliness and the overall downtown experience.
These are our Core Care services.
Core Patrol – Downtown safety is a growing concern in the core. The EDBA’s Core Patrol helps to improve nighttime safety for Edmonton’s downtown businesses, workers, visitors and residents.
This is not a replacement for Edmonton Police Service. If you are in an emergency situation, call 911.
Operating seven days a week from 12:30 am to 8:30 am, two Core Patrol vehicles comprised of two peer support workers from Hiregood patrol downtown streets, alleys, and public spaces.

Downtown Ambassadors are our friendly faces on the street providing a hospitable and welcoming experience for those who work, play or live in the downtown core.

Downtown Shine (formerly Downtown Proud) – This litter removal service ensures the downtown core is clean, promoting a healthy environment for everyone downtown. The EDBA works in partnership with the City of Edmonton and Hiregood to provide increased service. This includes litter pickup seven days a week, safe needle removal and 20 hours of pressure washing per month from April to the end of October.
In 2024, the team collected 1831.5 bags of garbage and 2,342 needles.
“We notice weekly the elevated cleanliness of the street. We’ve even had the [DT Shine] cleanup crew tell us they noticed a mess on our property in the back and cleaned it up for us!” – Jorel Pepin, Owner/Founder, Fawkes Coffee, 104 Street.
If you come across trash or debris on public property, report it through the Edmonton 311 app.
