Meet the family behind Riverbend Gardens, a local small-scale farm committed to ecological and socially responsible farm practices. Stock up on something healthy at their booth during the Downtown Farmers’ Market.

How would you describe your business?
“We are a small-scale family market garden farm operating on 120 acres of beautiful soil in North East Edmonton, and we grow more than 20 different kinds of veggies!”
What makes your business stand out?
“We’re a labour intensive farm: we do all our own hand weeding, picking, and packaging.
“We’re also committed to ecological and socially responsible farming practices. Every year we work towards bettering the conditions of our soils by doing a variety of things; growing cover crops, adding nitrogen, and composting. We take great care with our farming methods.”

Out of all your products, which is your favourite?
“Our favourite veggie is whichever one is ripe and ready in the field! At this time of year though, we love seeing the baby pea plants poke their noses out of the soil in the field. They’re the first to pop out of the ground in the spring and some of the very first veggies ready to bring to markets.”
What does it mean to you to be a part of the Downtown Farmers’ Market?
“Riverbend Gardens has had a stall at a downtown Edmonton Farmers’ Market since the original downtown market launched in 1981! We love being able to feed families in our community.”
