Meet Debra, the artist behind Say It With Stones, a local stone and pearl jewellery maker. Browse her eye-catching and uniquely gender-neutral designs at the Downtown Farmers’ Market.
How would you describe your business?
“Inspired by the natural beauty and energy of stones and crystals, I handcraft jewellery that is both stylish and meaningful. My creations include bracelets, necklaces, earrings and anklets for all ages and genders, and Pride-inspired designs that celebrate identity, diversity and inclusion.
“And, depending on the season, such as the FIFA World Cup or hockey season, you can find inspired designs to show your support. Each piece is thoughtfully designed to showcase the unique character of natural stones while creating wearable art that can be enjoyed every day.”
What led you to create Say It With Stones?
“Five years ago, I first became intrigued by handmade jewellery when I saw a friend creating necklaces and bracelets. As I learned more about the tools, techniques and creative process involved, I quickly became fascinated by the incredible variety of natural stones and their unique colours, patterns and properties.
“What began as a hobby creating gifts for family and friends soon grew into a passion. Before long, I had designed hundreds of unique pieces and wanted to share them with others.
The name “Say It with Stones” was inspired by my daughter. It immediately resonated with me because each design reflects an individual’s personality, style and story. In many ways, stones can express what words sometimes cannot.”
What makes your business stand out?
“I source high-quality, hard-to-find stones and strive to create pieces that stand out. I’m always on the hunt for unique gemstones in a variety of cuts, shapes and finishes.
“Many of my designs feature carefully selected combinations of stones that complement one another beautifully, resulting in pieces that are both visually striking and uniquely one of a kind.”
Out of all your products, which is your favourite?
“Bracelets have always been my favorite, so they’re especially fun for me to create. I also love designing eye-catching necklaces. And why? Because it can add a bit of playfulness, color and style to the day’s outfit.
“As for gemstones, I could never pick a favorite—each one has its own unique beauty, character and energy, which is what makes working with them so enjoyable.”
What does it mean to you to be a part of the Downtown Farmers’ Market?
“Being part of the vibrant energy and excitement of a Saturday morning market is something I truly enjoy. It brings an eclectic variety of people outdoors to connect, enjoy the fresh air and discover unique handmade treasures.
“I love sharing the beauty of natural stones through my creations, and it brings me so much joy when someone finds one of my pieces beautiful enough to wear. Seeing people connect with my designs and make them part of their own story is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.”
