Wow Brownies

Brownies that'll make you go, "wow."
"We drew a lot of inspiration from watching Willy Wonka growing up."

Meet the brothers behind Wow Brownies, an Edmonton-local small-batch bakery. Try their delicious brownies at the Downtown Farmers’ Market.

How would you describe your business?

“Wow Brownies is a small-batch bakery run by my brother Ben and I (Joshua) out of Edmonton.

“We make everything from scratch—classics like our mocha brownie and salted caramel, but also flavours you probably haven’t come across before: Toffee Crunch brownie, Cinnamon Bun blondie, and our Dark Chocolate Mango brownie. We use quality ingredients, we retest until it’s right, and if it doesn’t make you say “wow” it doesn’t make the box.”

What makes your business stand out?

“I feel we drew a lot of inspiration from watching Willy Wonka growing up—that sense of magical culinary wonder where flavour has no limits. We want every bite to feel a little surprising, a little joyful. Something that makes you feel like a kid again, whether you’re eight or 80. We keep asking ‘what if?’ and then we go make it and see if it works. That’s how we’ve ended up with almost 40 flavours in production throughout the year.

“We don’t play it safe with flavours, and we don’t hold back on ingredients. That curiosity is at the core of everything we do—but ultimately, we just want to see people enjoy our brownies and smile.”

Out of all your products, which is your favourite?

“Honestly, neither of us has one favorite—we have a favorite problem to solve. What we love is taking a flavor concept and figuring out how to make it work in a brownie or blondie.

“Right now we’re really excited about our new Key Lime Pie and London Fog blondie (Earl Gray, lemon, and lavender with a white chocolate base). And we’ve got new things in the pipeline, like a brown butter miso brownie. Flavours that make people raise an eyebrow and then go ‘…wow, I’ve never tried a brownie like that before, but it’s amazing!’ That reaction is what we live for.”

What does it mean to you to be a part of the Downtown Farmers’ Market?

“It means a lot to us. We’re not a big company—no outside funding, no corporate backing. Just two brothers making small-batch brownies and sharing them with anyone willing to try one.

“The market gave us our start and our community, and we don’t take that for granted. We genuinely believe anyone can build something special and put it out into the world, and the farmers’ market is one of the best places to prove that. We’re always happy to talk to other vendors or anyone thinking about starting something—about what we learned, what worked, what didn’t. We don’t gatekeep any of it. We’re just grateful people keep showing up.
