Siegfried

An epic coming-of-age story, where a young hero sets out to discover the world and who he is meant to become.

In Siegfried, a young man raised in isolation sets out to discover where he comes from and what kind of person he wants to be. Along the way he reforges his father’s sword, confronts a dragon, and begins to see the world beyond the forest where he grew up.

Raised by the cunning Mime and unaware of his true past, Siegfried moves through the world without fear, driven by curiosity and instinct. His journey eventually leads him to Brünnhilde, a warrior asleep behind a wall of fire. When he wakes her, both of their lives change.

Wagner’s Siegfried is filled with some of his most vivid and imaginative music, shifting between quiet, intimate moments and music of enormous scale. At its heart, the opera is about growing up, learning fear for the first time, and discovering love.

Edmonton Opera closes the 2025/26 season with Siegfried at the Maclab Theatre in the Citadel. A monumental story told in an intimate space, where the audience sits close enough to feel the full force of Wagner’s music and the human story at its centre.
