A weekly drop-in community art hive at MacEwan University

The Mitchell Art Gallery invites the public to explore their creativity during the summer edition of Art Buffet. Hosted inside the Allard Hall main atrium at MacEwan University, this weekly drop-in program offers a welcoming, inclusive space focused on creative expression and mental wellbeing.

Operating as an “art hive”—a concept rooted in community art therapy practices—the program provides a self-directed, no-pressure environment where anyone can create. All necessary materials and guidance are provided free of charge, and no prior artistic experience is required. It serves as a space for dialogue, skill-sharing and connection between students, faculty, downtown residents and visitors of all backgrounds and ages.

The summer community project

Collaborative tapestry: This season features a special community weaving project. Participants are invited to contribute threads to a collective tapestry, reflecting on how shared creative spaces bind a community together.
A buffet of materials: A wide variety of art supplies are laid out each week, allowing participants to choose their own mediums and projects at their own pace.

Holiday closure: Please note that the program will be closed on Wednesday, July 1 in observance of Canada Day.
